I believe Career Services Professionals can make a difference but we have to adapt our practices to the challenges of the 21st Century world-of-work.
What work am I most proud of?
Mentorship - I have trained more than 1000 career, mental health, and career counselors in Master’s and Ph.D. programs. My career focused training and speeches have reached more than 10,000 persons. I maintain an active network of professionals from around the world that I mentor on a monthly basis.
Writing - I have published one book called International Practices of Career Services, Credentialing and Training and have one under contract called School to Career. I have more than 50 other publications in top academic journals, career and school counseling textbooks, and other mediums.
I founded the St. Louis Cultural Competence Institute and received the 2014-15 Social Justice Advocacy Award from the Association of Humanistic Counseling for my advocacy work in St. Louis and Ferguson, MO.
Recognized by the Natasha Goulbourn Foundation of The Philippines, I have spoken to more than 25,000 Filipino counselors, psychologists, coaches, social workers, and youth about positive mindset, career development, social connection, and mental health. I have also been featured on Filipino television multiple times including a program with approximately 8.5 million viewers.
Where I am going
My professional credentials are Brian Hutchison, Ph.D., LPC, CCCE and I am a Core Faculty of Mental Health Counseling at Walden University, USA.
My active leadership is through the Asia Pacific Career Development Association (APCDA; Past-President and many current roles) the National Career Development Association (NCDA; past Treasurer and many current roles).
My scholarship focuses on global career development, career interventions, career theory, and career social justice. I also am the Founding Editor of the Asia Pacific Career Development Journal a biannual career publication.
My practical work includes on-line career coaching clients, providing career and mental health specific clinical supervision, training workshops, keynote speaking, and designing career education programs.
My next steps are to grow my audience using social media, create 21st Century career programs that best serve workers, and positively impact as many career services practitioners as possible so that we provide the best practices for our clients.
